Primary cell culture of human RPE cells and human RPE cell lines (e.g. ARPE-19) are models very close to the situation in living humans. Hence, they are very suitable models for obtaining early indications of the effects of drugs in human RPE cells.
RPE cell culture models are among the standard lab methods of STZ OcuTox. STZ OcuTox also offers animal RPE cell culture (rat, rabbit, dog, pig, monkey) which may be found along with the in vivo models of the respective animals.

- Effect of rod outer segment feeding – hypertrophy
- Lysomal pH
- Cell polarity
- Lysomal enzyme activity
- Protein synthesis
